While I’m waiting

Updated: Nov 15, 2020

I’ve been reading the book of Numbers lately and one thing that has stood out to me is the attitude that Israel had towards God.

Israel was full of unbelief and this greatly angered the Lord. Time after time God provided for them in the wilderness and showed His people He was with them but Israel was quick to disown God at any given opportunity. They would grumble and complain about the process that was supposed to lead them to their promised land. ‘Why did You bring us out here to die?’ they would tell Moses. They did not trust or have faith in God..despite his proven track record. Just pure unbelief. This meant that they would never behold what God had in store for them.

It was like.. Israel had forgotten. They had forgotten where the Lord had taken them from (which was out of slavery in Egypt). To top it off- they had forgotten the hardship of Egypt and were hoping to return.

Sometimes.. we are playing the waiting game. We are waiting for God to fulfil his promises concerning our lives and during our period of waiting we have to remind ourselves of the ‘great hero’s of faith’ that have gone before us.

I say to myself wait hold on Ebony ‘How many years did Abraham wait for Isaac?’

Many years right.. so really what do I have to complain about.

By the time God was ready to fulfil His promise to Abraham and his wife Sarah.. it was ‘laughable’ in Sarah’s opinion but Abraham never wavered in faith.

God is faithful- so I don’t have to get discouraged in the waiting. I am reminded that He is my shepherd and that I shall not want. (Psalm 23) I am also reminded that No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. In other words there’s nothing God cannot and will not do for you- when you are walking according to his word. That is living a blameless life in his sight. (Psalm 84:11)

Although Sin doesn’t disqualify us from Gods affection it can separate us from him.

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.

Sin is so deceitful.. it will keep you from seeing the truth about who God is, who He has called you to be, how He has called you to live, what He has called you to do and all the good things He has in store for you.

The only answer is to repent (turn away from our sins) and put our faith and trust again In Jesus.

Therefore this is where my confidence lies.

Where does your confidence lie today?
